Programme Support Associate (SME Development)
Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), a UN-related organization, is dedicated to humane and orderly migration benefiting migrants and society. IOM supports migrants globally, offering advice on migration policy and practice, and building capacity for governments to manage mobility. In Türkiye, IOM focuses on labor market integration, SME development, and voluntary return preparedness, including initiatives like the Business Advisory Bureaus (BABs). This role supports strengthening SME capacities and promoting formal job creation.
Job Purpose
The UN Volunteer will support the establishment and operationalization of Business Advisory Bureaus (BABs) in Ankara, in collaboration with local stakeholders such as Chambers of Commerce and private sector actors. The role aims to strengthen the capacities of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), promote formal job creation, and facilitate access to business development services and trade linkages. This assignment contributes to enhancing economic opportunities for vulnerable populations, including Syrians under Temporary Protection and host communities, fostering sustainable livelihoods and informed decision-making regarding voluntary return.
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Project Officer, the UN Volunteer will support the establishment and daily functioning of Business Advisory Bureaus (BABs) in coordination with local partners. Key duties include assisting in organizing and facilitating trainings, workshops, and B2B networking events for SMEs. The role involves contributing to outreach and communication efforts, supporting data collection, documentation, and reporting on activities and results. Additionally, the volunteer will assist in coordinating with stakeholders, participating in field visits, providing logistical and administrative support, and contributing to the preparation of briefing notes and reports. Monitoring SME support activities and identifying best practices are also core responsibilities.
Work Experience
A minimum of 1 month of relevant experience is required. Demonstrated interest or experience (up to 3 years) in private sector development, SME support, or economic inclusion/livelihoods programmes is desirable. Skills in communication, stakeholder engagement, basic data collection and reporting, and event organization are also beneficial.
