UNV
Organizational Context
UNICEF's core mission is to uphold the rights of every child globally, focusing on equity for the most disadvantaged. In Mozambique's emergency contexts, like Cabo Delgado, there's a critical need for practical, visually engaging, and field-friendly Child Protection in Emergencies (CPiE) materials. Existing resources are often text-heavy and unsuitable for low-resource or low-literacy settings. This role supports the redesign of training and operational materials to enhance usability, comprehension, and consistency.
Job Purpose
This assignment aims to visually redesign and simplify UNICEF Mozambique's national Child Protection in Emergencies (CPiE) Training of Trainers (ToT) package and related operational materials. The goal is to create practical, engaging, and field-adapted resources for frontline responders, facilitators, and social workers in emergency settings. The volunteer will contribute to improving the usability, comprehension, and consistency of these materials, ensuring they are accessible and effective even in low-resource and low-literacy environments. This directly supports enhanced Child Protection in Emergencies preparedness and response efforts.
Responsibilities
The volunteer will support UNICEF Mozambique's Child Protection team by redesigning CPiE training and operational materials. Key duties include reviewing existing content, visually redesigning the national CPiE ToT package, and developing engaging, easy-to-use materials for emergency contexts. This involves proposing visual concepts and templates aligned with UNICEF branding and adult learning principles. Specific outputs may include redesigned facilitator guides, training presentations, participant handouts, case study pamphlets, infographics, icons, illustrations, awareness posters, and quick-reference tools. The volunteer must ensure materials are accessible, practical for field use and low-resource printing, incorporate feedback, and provide editable source files.
Work Experience
Requires demonstrated experience in graphic design and visual communication, with a strong portfolio showcasing layout design, educational materials, infographics, and visual storytelling. Experience designing for facilitators, youth, or community engagement is beneficial. Familiarity with humanitarian, Child Protection, or education programs, and low-literacy communication approaches is desirable.
Skills
Strong graphic design and visual communication skills. Proficiency in design software (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Canva, PowerPoint). Ability to create engaging and accessible materials for diverse audiences, including those in low-resource settings. Strong communication and collaboration skills. Ability to incorporate feedback and meet deadlines. Fluency in English is required; basic Portuguese is desirable.
