Information Management Specialist
Organizational Context
The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) works to ensure the rights of all children, especially the most vulnerable. In Ecuador, UNICEF collaborates with state and social organizations to promote child well-being, advocating for social investment in education, health, and protection for over 40 years. The Information Management Specialist will support UNICEF Ecuador's programs, working under the supervision of the Humanitarian Affairs Officer and receiving guidance from the OCHA Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean. This role is crucial for strengthening information management within the UN Resident Coordinator's Office in Ecuador.
Job Purpose
The Information Management Specialist will be recruited by UNICEF Ecuador and will report to the Humanitarian Affairs Officer, with technical guidance from the OCHA Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean. This assignment aims to enhance information management capabilities within the UN Resident Coordinator's Office in Ecuador. The Specialist will play a key role in supporting more effective humanitarian coordination, enabling evidence-based decision-making, and ensuring timely information sharing among humanitarian partners. By collaborating closely with the Humanitarian Affairs Officer, the Specialist will assist the UN Resident Coordinator and the UN Country Team in coordinating essential humanitarian mechanisms, thereby improving the efficiency, coherence, and quality of humanitarian response in Ecuador.
Responsibilities
The Information Management Specialist will manage data by designing, developing, and maintaining databases and spreadsheets, ensuring data quality, accuracy, and consistency. Responsibilities include analyzing datasets using statistical techniques, participating in data standards development, and supporting assessment and needs analysis activities, including managing data collection tools like KoBo Toolbox. The role involves Geographic Information System (GIS) and mapping, maintaining spatial datasets, producing map products, and managing a repository of accessible spatial data. Additionally, the Specialist will manage content on relevant web platforms, ensuring it is current and comprehensive, and work with external counterparts to enhance interoperability. They will also create information products like reports, charts, and infographics, and develop advocacy materials. Coordination and capacity building are key, involving support for Humanitarian Program Cycle activities, fostering collaboration for information exchange, promoting data standards, and training partners on information management tools.
Work Experience
A minimum of three years of progressive experience in information management, information systems, web management, data management, GIS and mapping, or data visualization is required. Experience in emergency situations or complex emergencies is desirable. Experience in visualizing data into infographics or dynamic dashboards is also preferred. Strong interpersonal, diplomatic, and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse partners. Familiarity with the UN system is an advantage.
