Job Purpose
This role supports the UNDP Climate Hub by enhancing the French-language presence of the Climate Promise website. The Online Volunteer will edit and proofread English content, translating and adapting it into clear, accurate, and stylistically consistent French. This contribution is crucial for ensuring that vital information on climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts is accessible to French-speaking audiences, thereby supporting UNDP's global climate action objectives and the effective communication of country-level climate commitments.
Responsibilities
The Online Volunteer will be responsible for editing and proofreading website content from English to French, ensuring high standards of clarity, accuracy, and consistency in language, style, and formatting. Key tasks include correcting grammar, spelling, and punctuation; maintaining uniform terminology and adherence to institutional branding; verifying references and formatting; and suggesting improvements for coherence and flow. The volunteer will coordinate with peers to align on editing standards and liaise with the UNDP Climate Hub team and Country Offices to clarify content and incorporate feedback, ensuring all materials are publication-ready according to UNDP guidelines.
Work Experience
Prior experience in translating development, humanitarian, environmental, or climate-related content is required. Familiarity with UNDP editorial and publication standards is desirable. The ability to work with large documents and deliver quality translations under tight deadlines is essential.
Skills
Native proficiency in French and English is required. Strong attention to detail, stylistic consistency, and adherence to institutional branding and communication guidelines are essential. The role requires a solid understanding of climate change and climate action, along with the ability to ensure coherence and quality across bilingual content.
