Its mission is to eradicate poverty, reduce inequalities, and build resilience. The Istanbul Regional Hub (IRH) serves as UNDP's knowledge and advisory center for the Europe and Central Asia region. The Climate Promise website disseminates communications content on climate change and climate action.

Job Purpose

This role supports the UNDP Climate Hub by translating essential content from the Climate Promise website into French. The website features blogs, photo stories, news releases, and country pages detailing Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). The objective is to significantly increase the availability of this crucial climate-related information in French, making it accessible to a wider audience. The Online Volunteer will contribute directly to enhancing the reach and impact of UNDP's climate initiatives by ensuring key communications are available in a major UN language.

Responsibilities

The Online Volunteer will translate various content from the Climate Promise website from English to French. This includes explainers, editorial content, and country pages updated with new NDC information. The volunteer will also translate social media assets for major campaigns as needed, and assist with ad hoc translation requests for site labels, headlines, and menu items. A key responsibility is ensuring translations align with UN and UNDP guides on French terminology and style. The role requires delivering quality translations under tight deadlines, maintaining stylistic consistency, and adhering to institutional branding and communication guidelines.

Work Experience

Prior experience translating development, humanitarian, environmental, or climate-related content is required. The volunteer should possess strong attention to detail, stylistic consistency, and the ability to work with large documents, ensuring coherence across bilingual versions. Familiarity with UNDP editorial standards is desirable.

Skills

Required skills include a strong understanding of climate change and climate action, excellent translation abilities from English to French (native proficiency required), and the capacity to deliver quality work under tight deadlines. Attention to detail, stylistic consistency, and adherence to institutional guidelines are essential. Familiarity with UNDP's editorial and publication standards is desirable.
