Job Purpose
This role supports the Adi Yuva Fellowship, a UN initiative in India aimed at empowering tribal and marginalized youth. The volunteer will contribute to operationalizing the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction by integrating DRR and climate resilience into development efforts for vulnerable tribal communities. Key responsibilities include coordinating UNICEF and UN system interventions with the PM-JANMAN mission, mapping activities, and facilitating synergy. The position is crucial for translating high-level commitments into tangible actions, advancing SDGs related to poverty, education, inequality, sustainable communities, and climate action, and fostering inclusive development for tribal communities.
Responsibilities
The Coordination Assistant will support tribal affairs and inclusive development by mapping UNICEF and UN interventions in tribal districts, identifying gaps, and documenting programming. They will liaise with tribal leaders and civil society to foster participatory planning and facilitate inter-agency coordination meetings on tribal development and DRR. The role involves integrating DRR principles into youth and tribal programming, supporting school safety initiatives, and organizing community-based DRR training for youth volunteers. Additionally, the assistant will map traditional knowledge related to disaster preparedness, support the formation of Youth Volunteer Clubs, and organize awareness sessions on health, education, and child protection for tribal youth. Responsibilities also include knowledge management, reporting, learning about volunteerism, documenting local volunteerism, advocating for UNV, providing peer support, and promoting online volunteering.
Work Experience
Requires 1 month of experience, with 1 year of relevant experience preferred. Experience in disaster management, tribal/youth development, or Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) projects is beneficial. A demonstrated interest in DRR, tribal, youth, and social development issues, with an understanding of SDGs, is desirable. Familiarity with youth-related challenges is an asset. This position is exclusively open to candidates from Scheduled Tribe communities.
