Support English-Lao Live Interpretation for Restoration Consultations

This assignment supports the Sustaining an Abundance of Forest Ecosystems (SAFE) project, focusing on developing local capacity for monitoring forest ecosystems and restoration impacts through country consultations.
Job Purpose
This assignment aims to support the Sustaining an Abundance of Forest Ecosystems (SAFE) project by developing local capacity in forest ecosystem monitoring and restoration impact assessment. Through a series of online country consultations, participants including government officials, site managers, and community representatives will explore the adaptation of the Forest Restoration Impact Monitoring Framework (FRIMF) to local contexts. The role of interpretation is crucial for ensuring meaningful participation, capturing local perspectives, and informing future capacity-building activities. The Online Volunteer's contribution will enhance inclusive dialogue and support efforts towards effective ecosystem restoration for healthy forests.
Responsibilities
The Online Volunteer will provide real-time interpretation between English and Lao during online consultations focused on forest restoration monitoring in Lao PDR. This includes supporting one initial consultation of approximately one hour, with the possibility of up to three additional consultations lasting 30 minutes to one hour each. The volunteer must ensure accurate and clear interpretation for all participants. Additionally, they will assist in clarifying technical terminology related to forest restoration, ecosystem monitoring, and project implementation as needed. Background materials and guidance will be provided in advance to support the volunteer in their tasks.
Work Experience
Candidates must be native speakers of Lao and fluent in English. Familiarity with technical terms related to forest monitoring and/or restoration is considered an advantage. Previous translation experience is also an asset.
Skills
Excellent interpretation skills between English and Lao, including real-time interpretation. Ability to ensure accuracy and clarity in communication. Capacity to understand and clarify technical terminology related to forest restoration and ecosystem monitoring. Strong communication skills and cultural sensitivity are implied.
