Organizational Context
Founded in 1943, the Italian National Association for Civilian Victims of War (ANVCG) advocates for the rights of civilian victims of armed conflict, ensuring access to essential services. Beyond assistance, ANVCG promotes peace through remembrance, solidarity, and education, aiming to prevent future violence. Its Research Centre for Peace and Civilian Memory analyzes the impacts of war and advocates for global recognition of civilian experiences, fostering peacebuilding and reconciliation.
Job Purpose
This role supports the Research Centre for Peace and Civilian Memory (L'Osservatorio) in raising international awareness about humanitarian disarmament and the protection of civilians in conflict. The assignment focuses on highlighting the connection between disarmament efforts and Sustainable Development Goal 16. The volunteer will contribute to advocacy by producing written content that educates an international audience, particularly students and academics, on these critical issues. The goal is to deepen understanding and promote action towards protecting civilian lives and fostering a culture of peace.
Responsibilities
The volunteer will be responsible for drafting two articles weekly in Italian, each between 250-500 words, on approved topics related to the impact of conflicts on civilians, environmental consequences of wars, and international displacement. They will also review edits and feedback provided by the L'Osservatorio team on drafted articles. Additionally, the volunteer will be tasked with collecting information and conducting research for the L'Osservatorio's special projects, contributing to the centre's advocacy and research initiatives. This role requires active engagement with the team and a commitment to producing high-quality content.
Work Experience
Experience in writing and editing is desirable, particularly for research institutes, human rights organizations, international organizations, or newspapers. A passion for advocacy and a willingness to gain experience in this field are also valued.
Skills
Perfect command of both English and Italian languages is required. The role also values a passion for advocacy and the ability to conduct research and draft articles on complex topics related to conflict and peace.
