Organizational Context
The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) works to ensure the rights of all children, especially the most vulnerable. In Ecuador, UNICEF collaborates with the government and civil society to promote child well-being through programs focused on child protection, health, social inclusion, and education. The country faces risks from natural disasters, humanitarian crises, and violence, impacting children and adolescents. UNICEF Ecuador responds to armed violence, human mobility crises, and climate-related emergencies, supporting programmatic pillars with operational efficiency and resource mobilization.
Job Purpose
This role supports UNICEF Ecuador's programmatic efforts, particularly in crisis and emergency response. The incumbent will provide technical assistance in coordinating, monitoring, documenting, and reporting on humanitarian and emergency responses. A key focus will be supporting a project funded by DG-ECHO (European Union Humanitarian Action), ensuring timely execution, donor compliance, and alignment with UNICEF's institutional priorities. The position also contributes to strengthening planning, information systematization, results monitoring, and accountability to donors and partners, managing multiple funding sources that require regular technical and narrative reporting, primarily in English.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation Officer, the UN Volunteer will support the emergency lead and deputy representative in strategic oversight and systematic monitoring of the DG-ECHO funded project. This includes contributing to the analysis of progress and risks, coordinating project reporting, and ensuring effective collaboration with program teams and implementing partners. The role involves designing and applying monitoring tools for partners, supporting third-party monitoring, and assisting in the preparation of funding proposals and appeals. Responsibilities also include coordinating data collection and submission for reporting platforms, supporting situation reports during emergencies, facilitating knowledge exchange, and maintaining effective communication with internal teams, partners, and donors.
Work Experience
A minimum of three years of relevant professional experience is required in donor reporting, project management support, programmatic monitoring, or results-based reporting, preferably in development cooperation, humanitarian action, emergency response, or international organizations. Demonstrated experience in preparing, consolidating, reviewing, or quality-controlling narrative reports, situation updates, concept notes, or other technical documents is essential. Desirable experience includes data analysis and synthesis, previous work with NGOs or UN agencies, proficiency in Microsoft Office and collaborative platforms, and knowledge of project cycle management and donor reporting mechanisms.
Skills
Key competencies include professionalism, integrity, teamwork, respect for diversity, commitment to continuous learning, planning and organization, communication, and flexibility. A genuine commitment to the principles of volunteerism (solidarity, compassion, reciprocity, autonomy) is essential. Expertise areas include development programs, community development, and crisis and emergency response.
