Job Purpose
This assignment seeks to support the Gender Statistics and Data Analysis area of UN Women's Regional Office for the Americas and the Caribbean. The volunteer will contribute to research, document review, and information systematization processes. The primary goal is to assist in developing analyses, technical documents, and knowledge products related to gender equality and women's empowerment in the region. This role offers an opportunity to gain insights into UN Women's regional work, particularly in gender statistics and research, and to enhance skills in applied research, data analysis, and evidence-based technical product development.
Responsibilities
Volunteers will provide research assistance for studies conducted by UN Women's Regional Office for the Americas and the Caribbean's Gender Statistics and Data Analysis area. Key activities include: - Preparing bi-weekly reports summarizing work completed, including literature reviews of UN agency reports and academic literature on gender equality. - Drafting paragraphs to synthesize findings from document reviews. - Reviewing and providing comments on research conducted by UN Women. - Searching for information in UN agency databases, official country statistics, and other designated sources, potentially managing databases. - Creating charts and graphs from official data. - Participating in coordination meetings and technical feedback sessions with the UN Women team.
Work Experience
Proven experience in research for consultancies, academic articles, public policies, or report writing is required. A minimum of two years of such research experience is desirable. Experience in managing databases and creating data visualizations is also relevant.
Skills
Strong research and analytical skills. Proficiency in literature review, document synthesis, and data analysis. Ability to draft clear and concise reports and technical documents. Familiarity with gender equality concepts and statistics. Experience with UN agency databases and official statistics is beneficial. Fluency in Spanish (native) and working knowledge of English are required/desirable respectively.
