Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the UN's global development network, supporting countries in achieving sustainable development, democratic governance, peacebuilding, and climate resilience. UNDP Zambia is implementing the 'In Motion' methodology to empower youth-led micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Lusaka, Livingstone, and Kitwe. This initiative aims to enhance regional economies by fostering entrepreneurship, strengthening local value chains, and creating sustainable livelihoods, thereby building economic resilience for the next generation of business leaders.
Job Purpose
The Graphic Designer will play a crucial role in supporting the visibility and implementation of the UNDP's 'In Motion' programme in Zambia. The assignment focuses on enhancing the commercial identity of 24 youth-led businesses across Lusaka, Livingstone, Kitwe, and Ndola. This involves developing and strengthening branding elements, including logos and their applications, in alignment with UNDP guidelines. The Graphic Designer will contribute to the project's success by creating visually compelling materials, documenting business progress, and developing a comprehensive program booklet, ultimately supporting the economic empowerment of young entrepreneurs and the diversification of regional tourism and business offerings.
Responsibilities
The Graphic Designer will report to the UNDP Project Manager and is responsible for designing and delivering training sessions on commercial branding. Key duties include developing and strengthening the commercial branding for 24 beneficiary businesses, coordinating strategic marketing actions with Business Development Assistants, and supporting the UNDP Management Team in overseeing the development, approval, and printing of branded materials. The role also involves assisting in the implementation and application of branding within each business, conducting photographic documentation of business progress (baseline and endline), and creating a comprehensive program booklet featuring supported enterprises.
Work Experience
No prior experience is required. However, experience in at least two graphic or industrial design assignments is beneficial. Previous experience with projects focused on developing the commercial image of MSMEs or productive associations is an asset. Strong interpersonal, communication, and research skills are also valued.
Skills
The role requires demonstrated commitment to UNDP's mission, vision, and values, with sensitivity to cultural, gender, religious, racial, and age differences. Essential functional competencies include advanced computer skills (Microsoft Office, web applications), ability to deliver under tight deadlines, excellent communication and facilitation skills, and strong research and analytical abilities. Expertise in arts and design, business management, and development programmes is desirable.
