Community Lead - Enterprise Development (KITWE)

Job Purpose
This role supports micro and small businesses in Kitwe, Zambia, by providing direct mentorship, operational training, and strategic capability-building to young entrepreneurs. The objective is to enhance economic resilience, increase competitiveness, and improve market stability through the "In Motion Methodology." The Community Lead will facilitate group trainings and provide on-site technical assistance, helping youth-led MSMEs to compete in larger markets and meet international standards. This initiative aims to transform Kitwe into a dynamic regional destination, driven by youth innovation and diversification beyond its traditional industrial and mining sectors, fostering sustainable employment and economic growth.
Responsibilities
Under the guidance of the UNDP Project Manager, the Community Lead will deliver group trainings using the "In Motion Methodology." This includes providing specialized on-site technical assistance to micro, small, and medium business owners, adhering to the programme's methodology and templates. The role involves participating in weekly Management Team meetings to report on implementation status and processing surveyed information for progress reports as per UNDP specifications. Additionally, the Community Lead will support enterprise innovation and renovation by defining and delivering necessary equipment in coordination with beneficiaries and the Management Team, and will coordinate strategic marketing actions with the Project Team's Graphic Designer.
Work Experience
No prior experience is required. However, experience as a consultant or coach in business management, continuous improvement, and advisory services to micro and small businesses is desirable. Experience in retail commerce, sales, inventory, basic management, finance, or legal-commercial advice, along with knowledge of Zambian micro and small enterprise dynamics, is beneficial. Completion of "In Motion Training" and any certification on value chain methodologies are considered assets.
Skills
Demonstrated commitment to UNDP's mission, values, and integrity is essential. The role requires sensitivity to cultural, gender, religious, racial, and age diversity. Functional competencies include advanced computer skills (Microsoft Office, web applications), ability to deliver quality work under deadlines, excellent communication and facilitation skills, proven ability in gender mainstreaming, and strong research and analytical skills. Expertise in business management, development programmes, economics, and finance is also relevant.
