Community Lead - Enterprise Development

NUNV-C
Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the UN's global development network, supporting countries in achieving sustainable development and the Sustainable Development Goals. Operating in 170 countries, UNDP focuses on sustainable development, democratic governance, peacebuilding, and climate resilience. In Zambia, UNDP supports Lusaka's economic growth, particularly through youth-led micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), aiming to enhance local capacities and foster economic resilience.
Job Purpose
This role supports the enhancement of Lusaka's economy by implementing the UNDP's 'In Motion Methodology' for youth-led MSME capacity development. The Community Lead will provide direct mentorship, operational training, and strategic capability-building to young entrepreneurs. The assignment aims to increase the competitiveness and market stability of these businesses, enabling them to compete on larger markets and meet international standards. By focusing on sustainable tourism strategies and diversifying urban offerings, the initiative seeks to position Lusaka as a premier regional destination, driven by the creative energy of its youth population and fostering positive economic ripple effects.
Responsibilities
Under the guidance of the UNDP Project Manager, the Community Lead will deliver group trainings using the 'In Motion Methodology' and provide on-site technical assistance to Lusaka-based micro and small business owners. Responsibilities include following up on methodology implementation status in weekly Management Team meetings, processing surveyed information, and preparing progress reports according to UNDP specifications. The role also involves supporting enterprise innovation and renovation through equipment definition and delivery in coordination with beneficiaries and the Management Team, and coordinating strategic marketing actions with the Project Team's Graphic Designer.
Work Experience
No specific prior experience is required. However, experience as a consultant or coach in business management, process improvement, and advising micro and small businesses is desirable. Experience in at least two consultancies related to retail commerce, sales, inventory, basic management, finance, or legal-commercial advice is beneficial. Good knowledge of Zambian MSME dynamics and successful completion of the 'In Motion Training' are advantageous.
Skills
The role requires demonstrated commitment to UNDP's mission, vision, and values, with sensitivity to cultural diversity and high standards of integrity. Essential functional competencies include advanced computer skills (Microsoft Office, web applications), ability to deliver quality work under deadlines, excellent communication and facilitation skills, gender mainstreaming capabilities, and strong research and analytical skills. Expertise in business management, development programmes, and economics/finance is also important.
