Organizational Context
UNDP Ukraine supports inclusive growth and sustainable human development, aligning with the 2030 Agenda and SDGs. The ongoing full-scale invasion has intensified attacks on civilian infrastructure, creating urgent recovery needs. A project, in partnership with Japan, aims to provide integrated, multi-sectoral support to address war-related damage and challenges. This initiative focuses on essential services, socio-economic resilience, and transparent recovery, promoting Human Security and leveraging Japan's expertise for a build-back-better approach, emphasizing accessibility for persons with disabilities.
Job Purpose
The Accessibility Associate will provide technical expertise on inclusion and accessibility to support UNDP Ukraine's recovery and reconstruction efforts amidst the ongoing conflict. The role involves conducting accessibility audits, advising on universal design principles, and integrating accessibility considerations into various project activities, including infrastructure repair, service delivery, and communication materials. The associate will identify barriers for persons with disabilities, offer practical recommendations for inclusive solutions, and contribute to capacity building for partners. This position is crucial for ensuring that recovery interventions are barrier-free and promote the equal access of all individuals, particularly vulnerable groups, to essential services and community spaces, aligning with the UN Disability Inclusion Strategy and national requirements.
Responsibilities
The Accessibility Associate will provide subject matter technical advice on inclusion, accessibility, and universal design, conducting audits to ensure high standards in reconstruction and development projects. They will support the implementation of accessibility and disability inclusion initiatives, integrating these considerations into community activities, service delivery, and communication materials. The role involves identifying accessibility barriers for vulnerable groups and providing practical recommendations for inclusive design elements. The associate will conduct accessibility assessments of various public environments and review project materials for inclusiveness. Additionally, they will facilitate trainings and develop knowledge products on accessibility standards and universal design. Coordination with stakeholders, including Organizations of Persons with Disabilities, civil society, and local authorities, is essential. The associate will also participate in field missions and contribute to promoting inclusive approaches within UNDP-supported interventions.
Work Experience
Minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in accessibility, disability inclusion, universal design, inclusive recovery, rehabilitation, architecture, urban planning, or construction. Experience supporting accessibility and inclusion initiatives within recovery, reconstruction, or community-based projects is required. Familiarity with accessibility standards, universal design principles, CRPD, UNDIS, and national norms is essential.
Skills
Accountability, adaptability, flexibility, creativity, judgment, decision-making, planning, organizing, professionalism, technical expertise in accessibility and inclusive design, partnership building, knowledge sharing, self-management. Expertise in architecture and settlements, development programmes, and engineering and construction is desirable.
