Organizational Context
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the global environmental authority, promoting sustainable development and advocating for the environment. Its Ecosystems Division supports countries, including those in crisis, with environmental policy implementation and capacity building. The Disaster and Conflict Branch specifically aids areas damaged by conflict and disasters, integrating environmental needs into recovery. UNEP's work in Ukraine, requested by the government, focuses on monitoring, assessing, mitigating, and remediating environmental damage from the conflict, aligning with the Green Recovery Strategy.
Job Purpose
This role supports UNEP's efforts in Ukraine to address the environmental consequences of the conflict, as requested by the Ukrainian government. The incumbent will assist in coordinating UNEP project activities within the Ministry of Development of Communities and Territories, facilitating communication between stakeholders, and managing project information. Key contributions include supporting the Green Recovery of Ukraine initiative by helping to reform policies, develop financial instruments, and mobilize expertise for a science-based, climate-resilient recovery. The position is crucial for laying the foundation for a green and resilient recovery, enhancing understanding of environmental impacts, and demonstrating remediation measures.
Responsibilities
The Project Support and Communication Specialist will provide crucial support for UNEP's project activities within the Ministry of Development of Communities and Territories. This includes assisting with coordination, follow-up, and monitoring of project progress, while flagging any delays. The role involves maintaining social media presence, creating content, and supporting event organization and media coverage. Facilitating communication between Ministry departments, UNEP teams, donors, and partners is essential, along with organizing consultations and maintaining stakeholder engagement records. The specialist will also manage project documentation, compile data for reporting, and prepare summaries and minutes. Logistical support for missions and events, processing administrative documents, and media monitoring are also key duties. Additionally, the role contributes to drafting progress reports, supporting knowledge-sharing, and documenting lessons learned.
Work Experience
A minimum of three years of professional experience is required in communications, public relations, project coordination, or a similar area. This should include experience in drafting analytical or informational materials, coordinating with stakeholders, and managing content. Strong writing and editing skills in both Ukrainian and English are essential. Experience within a government institution or international organization is considered an asset, as is proficiency in project management tools like Notion, Trello, or Canva.
