Organizational Context

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) promotes sustainable urban development globally. The UN-Habitat China Office's Future Cities Council (CFCC) spearheads the annual Future Cities Advisory Outlooks (FCAOs) flagship reports. These reports address critical urban topics, offering digital solutions and showcasing innovative practices. To enhance outreach, a brochure summarizing CFCC's achievements is being developed.

Job Purpose

This role supports the UN-Habitat China Office by creating a visually engaging brochure for the Future Cities Advisory Outlooks (FCAOs) flagship reports. The purpose is to translate complex urban development insights into an accessible format for external communication and outreach. The volunteer will contribute to presenting CFCC's core intellectual achievements, which cover topics like China's tech overview, pandemic response, net-zero carbon transition, digital urban transformation, and AI-empowered sustainable urban development, thereby increasing the visibility and impact of UN-Habitat's work in China.

Responsibilities

The Online Volunteer will collaborate with the UN-Habitat China communications team to produce a layout and format for the Future Cities Advisory Outlooks (FCAOs) brochure. Key duties include developing a comprehensive brochure layout (approximately 20 pages) based on provided FCAOs content, under the guidance of the Country Manager. The volunteer will also be responsible for revising and ensuring the quality assurance of the brochure layout, adhering to agreed requirements and incorporating feedback. Participation in virtual meetings may be required. All materials developed will remain the intellectual property of UN-Habitat China, and branding guidelines will be provided.

Work Experience

Professional graphic design experience is required, with a specific focus on document layout design. Proficiency in mainstream design software such as Photoshop, InDesign, and Adobe Illustrator is essential. Candidates are encouraged to submit a link to their portfolio.

Skills

Proficiency in graphic design software (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator), document layout design, strong verbal and written communication skills, excellent time management, and resilience are required. Fluency in English is necessary, and knowledge of Chinese is a plus.
