The celebration of World Environment Day 2026 aims to strengthen citizen engagement in environmental protection and climate action, recognizing the indispensable role of community involvement.
Job Purpose
This assignment aims to leverage community volunteers to raise awareness and support local environmental actions in Mali, coinciding with the 2026 World Environment Day celebration. Volunteers will contribute to strengthening citizen engagement in environmental protection and climate action, addressing challenges such as pollution, natural resource degradation, and climate change impacts. The initiative seeks to foster a sense of responsibility and promote volunteerism within communities, encouraging active participation in creating a better planet for future generations.
Responsibilities
Volunteers will animate thematic discussions focusing on critical environmental and climate-related topics. Key areas include exploring the links between climate, peace, and security, and identifying roles for citizens, women, and youth in promoting environmental peace. Participants will also learn about the importance of biodiversity and practical actions for ecosystem protection and restoration in Mali. Furthermore, volunteers will understand climate change impacts, disaster risk reduction, and local adaptation strategies. Discussions will also cover sustainable solutions like clean energy, gender integration in climate action, and understanding national climate governance frameworks (CDN, PNPE) for community engagement. Discussions will be conducted in pairs, with three volunteers selected for infographic creation.
Work Experience
Required experience includes demonstrated mastery of at least one of the thematic areas related to climate action and environmental protection. Familiarity with climate change, biodiversity, disaster risk reduction, or sustainable energy solutions would be beneficial.
Skills
Key skills include the ability to animate thematic discussions, strong communication, and a deep understanding of environmental issues. Proficiency in French is desirable. Volunteers should possess expertise in at least one of the specified thematic areas, demonstrating a commitment to climate action and environmental protection.
