Organizational Context
The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) in Brindisi, Italy, provides essential Supply Chain, Geospatial, and ICT services to UN Peacekeeping and Special Political Missions worldwide. This role supports the UNGSC's communications strategy, aligning with UN Department of Global Communications and Operational Support guidelines. Job Purpose
The Public Information Specialist will support and coordinate the implementation of the UNGSC's communications strategy, ensuring alignment with UN Department of Global Communications (DGC) and Department of Operational Support (DOS) guidelines. This role involves collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to effectively communicate UNGSC's work, impact, and mandate. The specialist will contribute to shaping the organization's vision and voice through various communication products and channels, enhancing UNGSC's visibility and public perception. The position is based in Brindisi, Italy, and reports to the Senior Administrative Officer.
Responsibilities
The Public Information Specialist will support the UNGSC Communications Strategy, developing and reviewing plans to communicate the organization's work, impact, and mandate to diverse audiences. Responsibilities include coordinating strategy implementation across channels, leading communication campaigns, and serving as the primary communications point person. The role involves providing guidance on UNGSC's digital presence, website management, and social media activities, including defining editorial lines and tone of voice. The specialist will contribute to developing and disseminating global communication materials, such as briefing notes, press releases, and articles, and support the review of UNGSC publications. Guidance will also be provided on video and photo production, ensuring branding consistency. Additionally, the role supports media relations, event organization, and knowledge sharing by synthesizing best practices and lessons learned.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of professional experience in advocacy, communications, public information, or related programs at national or international levels is required. Experience with video production/editing, media relations, social media management, and web content management is highly desirable. Familiarity with the UN system or international development organizations is an asset. Strong drafting, reporting, and interpersonal skills are essential.
