Organizational Context
The World Health Organization (WHO) in the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) supports the government's national health priorities, focusing on universal health coverage, health emergency preparedness, non-communicable disease control, and communicable disease management. The WHO Country Liaison Office in Pohnpei provides technical cooperation and coordinates partnerships to strengthen health systems and advance health security in line with national goals and WHO's mandate.
Job Purpose
The Communications Associate will support the WHO's communication efforts in FSM, contributing to the development and implementation of communication plans. This role involves creating and disseminating various communication materials, documenting WHO's impact, and managing digital platforms to enhance visibility and public engagement. The associate will work closely with technical teams to translate health information into accessible messages, support media relations, and assist in communication activities during public health emergencies and outreach events, ultimately promoting WHO's programmes and health outcomes.
Responsibilities
The UNV Communications Associate will support communication, visibility, and storytelling by developing and implementing country communication plans, drafting and producing materials like news stories and human-interest pieces, and documenting WHO-supported activities and best practices. Responsibilities include managing and updating WHO's digital platforms and social media channels with engaging multimedia content, monitoring engagement, and providing basic analytics. The role also involves supporting media engagement, maintaining contact lists, and developing advocacy materials. Additionally, the associate will assist in translating complex health information for diverse audiences, support communication during public health emergencies and events, and capture multimedia content for visibility. Coordination with WHO regional/headquarters teams and UN communication networks, as well as partners, is expected, along with reporting on communication outputs.
Work Experience
Requires 3 years of relevant experience, with a demonstrated interest or experience in communications, digital media, storytelling, or development work. Strong English writing and editing skills are essential. Familiarity with social media, multimedia content creation, and basic digital analytics is needed. Experience in public health or resource-constrained settings is an asset.
