Develop an Interactive Power BI Dashboard for Local Governance Project Mapping

Organizational Context

The UNDP Bangkok Regional Hub (BRH) supports Country Offices in Asia and the Pacific by providing access to knowledge, high-quality advisory services, and promoting regional capacity-building initiatives. The BRH Governance Team specifically maintains a mapping of local governance and development projects across the region, aiming to enhance programme oversight, knowledge sharing, and evidence-based decision-making. This initiative directly supports SDGs 11, 16, and 17.

Job Purpose

The purpose of this assignment is to transform an existing Excel-based mapping of over 166 local governance and development projects across 27 Asia-Pacific countries into an interactive, web-accessible Power BI dashboard. The volunteer will create a visualization tool that allows users to explore project data, including thematic focus, SDG alignment, intervention types, donor partnerships, budgets, and geographic coverage. This dashboard will enhance programme oversight, facilitate knowledge sharing, and support evidence-based decision-making, contributing to transparent governance and improved development intervention visibility.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the BRH Governance Team, the Online Volunteer will develop an interactive Power BI dashboard for visualizing local governance and development projects. Key responsibilities include: reviewing and cleaning the source Excel data, structuring it into a Power BI-optimized model, and designing an interactive report with map visualizations, filters (country, status, SDGs, etc.), summary statistics, and drill-through capabilities. The volunteer will ensure visual alignment with UNDP branding, enable cross-filtering, and produce the final Power BI file (.pbix) with embed code for website integration. Additionally, a brief user guide will be drafted, and a handover session conducted. Regular online check-ins will be held to discuss progress and address challenges.

Work Experience

Demonstrated experience building interactive dashboards and reports in Microsoft Power BI, including publishing reports, generating embed codes, and integrating them into websites, is essential. Working knowledge of Excel for data preparation is also required. Familiarity with UNDP project data and branding guidelines is an asset.

Skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Power BI for dashboard development, data visualization, and report generation. Experience with publishing and embedding Power BI reports for web audiences. Strong data preparation skills using Excel. Excellent data visualization and design skills. Familiarity with UNDP branding guidelines is an asset. Fluent English communication skills are required.
