Organizational Context
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) works to prevent drugs, organized crime, corruption, and terrorism from threatening global peace, security, human rights, and development. Established in 1997, UNODC collaborates with states and civil society to foster international best practices. This UN Volunteer assignment supports a project to reform Argentina's justice system, aiming to enhance institutional capacities for investigating and prosecuting organized crime cases within the transition to an accusatorial penal system.
Job Purpose
This role supports the UNODC project 'Supporting the reform of justice in Argentina,' focusing on strengthening the capacities of Argentine institutions to effectively investigate and prosecute organized crime cases. The assignment is crucial for the transition to an accusatorial penal system. The volunteer will manage administrative, operational, and financial aspects of project activities, ensuring timely achievement of objectives and adherence to UN standards. Key contributions include supporting planning, monitoring, and reporting on project implementation, facilitating coordination with counterparts, and managing procurement and logistical processes to mitigate risks and ensure successful project outcomes.
Responsibilities
Manage administrative, operational, and budgetary activities for the 'Supporting the reform of justice in Argentina' project, ensuring timely achievement of objectives and adherence to project guidelines. Support the planning, control, and monitoring of administrative and operational activities, contributing to the fulfillment of objectives with counterparts and donors. Oversee procurement processes, missions, assets, and events, providing early alerts and ensuring compliance with UN regulations and financial commitments. Monitor the technical, administrative, and financial execution of the project, identifying risks and proposing mitigation strategies. Participate in meetings to report progress, challenges, and updates on project activities. Liaise with thematic units, transversal areas, and counterparts to facilitate project execution within agreed timelines. Assist in preparing work plans, reports, presentations, and conceptual documents for project monitoring and reporting to donors and project management. Maintain and update databases, applications, and information systems, and support the development of new tools to standardize administrative and operational processes.
Work Experience
Requires 3 years of relevant experience in managing administrative, operational, and/or financial processes. Desirable experience includes budget monitoring, financial execution control, procurement, logistics, asset management, and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and database management. Ability to work effectively in a multicultural team and under pressure with minimal supervision is also valued.
