Job Purpose
The Landscape Project Officer will support the implementation of the GEF-7 project "Sustainable management and restoration of degraded landscapes for achieving Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) in India." This role is crucial for achieving land degradation neutrality by creating carbon sinks through ecosystem-based restoration of agricultural, forest, and pastoral lands. The officer will help establish enabling frameworks, participatory landscape design, and financing models, and improve capacity for LDN monitoring and reporting. The assignment aims to support sustainable land management practices, biodiversity conservation, and climate mitigation, contributing to national targets and international cooperation.
Responsibilities
The Landscape Project Officer will assist the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) and State Project Director in planning, coordinating, and implementing project activities according to the project document. This includes assuming responsibility for landscape-level implementation, ensuring regular communication with stakeholders, and coordinating with relevant government departments and technical institutions. The role involves developing annual work plans, facilitating review meetings, and preparing minutes. The officer will support the development of Terms of Reference for consultants, identify capacity development needs, and arrange training. Responsibilities also include collating inputs for progress reports, financial audits, and liaising with departments for convergence with ongoing schemes. The role requires tracking project expenditure, managing contracts, flagging risks, and assisting in project evaluations. Disseminating best practices and supporting resource mobilization are also key duties.
Work Experience
A minimum of 3 years of experience is required, with 4 years of relevant experience being desirable. Experience working with international organizations, NGOs/INGOs, or the UN in project implementation is preferred. Proficiency in MS Office Suite and the ability to build constructive relationships, work independently under deadlines, adapt to challenging environments, and collaborate effectively in multicultural teams are essential.
