Job Purpose
The Community Mobilizer will support the Landscape Project Management Unit in implementing a GEF-7 project focused on sustainable management and restoration of degraded landscapes to achieve Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) in India. This role is crucial for engaging communities in restoration efforts, promoting sustainable land management practices, and facilitating the adoption of nature-based livelihoods. The mobilizer will work under the supervision of the Landscape Project Officer, contributing to project outcomes such as enhanced enabling frameworks, integrated landscape design, and improved LDN monitoring. The position aims to foster community participation and support the replication of best practices for productive landscapes.
Responsibilities
The Community Mobilizer will support daily project activities in collaboration with the Landscape Project Officer and Coordinator. Key duties include facilitating and recording community participation in district coordination meetings, assisting in the selection of champion villages, and engaging with the Forest Department and community leadership. The role involves mobilizing and sensitizing communities for grassland, forest, and agricultural land restoration, demonstrating sustainable land management practices, and implementing project activities related to ecological restoration, livelihood development, and biodiversity conservation at village and cluster levels. The mobilizer will also promote nature conservation, engage women and youth in restoration and conservation efforts, and facilitate access for project staff. Responsibilities extend to preparing beneficiary lists for training, organizing community events, tracking adoption of learnings, conducting surveys, documenting community practices and perceptions, and supporting knowledge management. Close coordination with government agencies and community-based organizations for program convergence is also required.
Work Experience
No prior experience is required. However, at least one year of relevant field experience in rural areas, specifically in community development, is desirable.
