Livelihood and Economic Recovery Analyst
Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) serves as a knowledge frontier organization for sustainable development within the UN system, integrating collective action towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In Ethiopia, the Peace Support Facility (PSF), a UNDP mechanism endorsed by the government, focuses on stabilization and early recovery in conflict-affected regions. It acts as a facilitator and learning platform, bridging humanitarian aid and long-term reconstruction by empowering local authorities to restore essential services, governance, and foster sustainable peace.
Job Purpose
The Livelihood and Economic Recovery Analyst will support the Peace Support Facility (PSF) in designing, implementing, and learning from area-based recovery interventions in conflict-affected areas of Ethiopia. This role involves field assessments, participatory planning, and providing technical support across PSF program areas. The Analyst will collaborate with local authorities and communities to develop action plans, focusing on livelihood restoration and economic recovery through income generation, MSME support, and market-based approaches. The position aims to strengthen local economies, promote social cohesion, and contribute to sustainable peace by ensuring recovery efforts are locally owned and aligned with national frameworks.
Responsibilities
The Livelihood and Economic Recovery Analyst will be responsible for supporting area-based assessment and action planning, including the design and implementation of economic recovery and livelihoods assessments, data collection and analysis, and facilitating participatory planning processes. This includes contributing to the drafting of Integrated Woreda Action Plans (iWAPs) and Annual Work Plans (AWPs), ensuring alignment with recovery frameworks and stabilization principles. The role also involves providing technical accompaniment during the implementation of livelihood and economic recovery interventions, supporting income-generating activities, and ensuring conflict sensitivity and inclusion. Furthermore, the Analyst will contribute to knowledge management and learning by supporting data collection systems, analyzing implementation data, preparing knowledge products, and documenting best practices. Cross-cutting technical support across PSF sectors will ensure integrated programming and coherence.
Work Experience
Requires 3 years of progressive experience in implementing and managing multi-sectoral post-conflict recovery and development programs, with a focus on vulnerable populations. Experience with UN/UNDP policies and programming is desirable. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, strong analytical and reporting skills, and the ability to work effectively in challenging, multicultural environments are essential.
