Organizational Context

Job Purpose
This role is crucial for managing UNFPA interventions in humanitarian development and the climate nexus within a complex operating environment in Pakistan. The incumbent will support technical and demographic data analysis, leveraging AI-powered data intelligence to advance UNFPA's mandate, particularly in providing life-saving SRH and GBV services. Key contributions include analyzing trends, identifying challenges and opportunities, and translating complex data into accessible, policy-relevant information for decision-making. The analysis will inform project formulation, humanitarian preparedness, response efforts, and the integration of humanitarian development and climate nexus strategies.
Responsibilities
The UN Volunteer Associate will focus on Data Science and Intelligence (50%), applying advanced statistical and data science techniques (machine learning, data mining, predictive analytics) to extract insights from diverse data sources. This includes developing data visualization tools and dashboards, analyzing population, migration, and mobility trends, and supporting data analysis for humanitarian preparedness and response. The role involves exploring innovative data sources like AI and geospatial data, contributing to data governance, and developing knowledge products. Technical Support and Capacity Building (40%) involves providing assistance to UNFPA staff and partners on data management and analysis, delivering training, and integrating data into strategic planning. Partnership and Resource Mobilization (10%) includes contributing to funding proposals and improving communication products.
Work Experience
While no prior experience is strictly required, demonstrated interest or experience (up to two years) in demographic methods, statistical software (SPSS, Stata), and data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI) is beneficial. Previous volunteer or cross-cultural experience is highly regarded. Specialist-level command of MS Office, data software, and AI is expected.
