Organizational Context
The WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region, through its Integrated Disease Surveillance and Laboratory Unit, prioritizes strengthening laboratory quality management systems (LQMS) and supporting public health laboratories towards ISO 15189 accreditation. This initiative focuses on capacity building, mentorship, and peer learning. The assignment supports the design and implementation of a structured mentorship program for ISO 15189 readiness and facilitates a digital Community of Practice (CoP) with Project ECHO to enhance professional development and knowledge exchange across Member States.
Job Purpose
This assignment aims to strengthen the design and implementation of a structured mentorship program to support public health laboratories in achieving ISO 15189 accreditation. The role involves curating, adapting, and contextualizing mentorship tools and developing a standardized approach for consistent technical guidance across countries. Additionally, the volunteer will facilitate a digital Community of Practice (CoP) in collaboration with Project ECHO. This CoP will foster continuous professional development, peer-to-peer learning, and sustainable knowledge exchange, ultimately contributing to institutionalizing mentorship and building long-term regional capacity for laboratory quality systems strengthening.
Responsibilities
The Online Volunteer will support the organization and facilitation of Community of Practice (CoP) webinars and related activities. Key contributions include supporting Q&A sessions during ECHO webinars and assisting in documenting CoP activities, discussions, and key learning outputs. The expected outputs are three well-coordinated webinar sessions with aligned agendas and engaged speakers, along with documented summaries of relevant CoP discussions and key learning outcomes from these webinars. The role requires strong analytical, documentation, and coordination skills, familiarity with digital collaboration tools, and the ability to work in multicultural environments.
Work Experience
Experience in laboratory quality improvement, mentorship, or capacity-building programs is required. Familiarity with digital collaboration tools and virtual learning platforms is also necessary. The ability to work effectively in multicultural and multidisciplinary environments is essential for this role.
Skills
Required skills include strong analytical, documentation, and coordination abilities. Proficiency with digital collaboration tools and virtual learning platforms is necessary. The volunteer must be able to work effectively in multicultural and multidisciplinary environments. Fluency in English is required, and fluency in Arabic is desirable.
