Job Purpose
This assignment contributes to the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team's (HOT) regional macro-mapathon initiative in Latin America, specifically focusing on Mexico. The goal is to generate crucial geospatial data by mapping basic territorial elements in OpenStreetMap using satellite imagery. Enhance the base cartography of OpenStreetMap in priority areas of Mexico using satellite imagery. Participants will receive training on cartographic digitization from scratch through online video sessions, with mandatory attendance at a minimum of four weekly sessions. Volunteers need a computer with internet access, a standard browser, and a mouse. They will join a WhatsApp community for technical guidance and information. Mapping will be done using platforms like Tasking Manager and MapRoulette, following established project structures. Volunteers must correct their own errors using OSM profile tools. The objective is to digitize roads and buildings with high-quality standards, completing a minimum of 500 error-free objects for certification.
Work Experience
No specific prior experience in OpenStreetMap editing is required, though this knowledge will be highly valued. Candidates should demonstrate interest in digital cartography, open data, transparency, activism, and citizen science. Basic computer skills, including using a web browser, email, and virtual meeting platforms, are necessary.
