Organizational Context
The UNDP Regional Centre for Latin America and the Caribbean supports country offices by strengthening their project management, strategic partnerships, and knowledge sharing capabilities. It focuses on human development initiatives in areas like democratic governance, environment, crisis prevention, poverty reduction, and gender equality. The centre also works on knowledge management to enhance government and community capacity for sustainable development and achieving the SDGs.
Job Purpose
This assignment supports the Mapatón Paraguay project, contributing to specialized and advanced data processing tasks. The role involves validating data, guiding novice mappers, assisting in training on editing best practices, and conducting detailed analysis of mapped areas to identify inconsistencies and generate quality reports. The objective is to leverage technical leadership and specialized knowledge to improve OpenStreetMap data quality for disaster risk preparedness in Paraguay, fostering a network of collaborators.
Responsibilities
Support specialized and advanced Mapatón projects in Paraguay by participating in data validation. Provide expert guidance to beginner mappers during sessions and community chats. Assist in training on best practices for editing and tagging. Conduct detailed analysis of mapped areas to identify inconsistencies and generate country-specific statistical reports and data quality assessments. Contribute technical leadership and specialized knowledge without direct supervision of other online volunteers. Participate in scheduled sessions and provide regular assistance in WhatsApp community chats. Map individually during free time on assigned specialized projects. Generate database analyses during key Mapatón dates. Coordinate within a dedicated WhatsApp group.
Work Experience
Advanced knowledge of OpenStreetMap and digital cartography is required. Experience as an advanced-level OSM user in personal profiles and Tasking Manager is necessary. Proficiency with JOSM and iD Editor, deep understanding of tagging standards, and familiarity with the OpenStreetMap wiki are essential. Experience in facilitating training and supporting other mappers is also required.

Advanced OpenStreetMap knowledge, advanced OSM user level, solid digital cartography experience, proficiency in JOSM and iD Editor, deep understanding of tagging standards and mapping best practices, familiarity with OpenStreetMap wiki, ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and pedagogically, geospatial data analysis skills, experience in facilitating training and supporting mappers, attention to detail, critical thinking, and collaborative spirit.
