Information Management Officer- WASH & Climate

Organizational Context

UNICEF's mission is to promote the rights of every child, everywhere, focusing on equity for the most disadvantaged. In Sierra Leone, UNICEF supports the government and partners in health, nutrition, education, WASH, and social protection, prioritizing vulnerable populations. The country faces significant challenges in providing safe, sustainable, and climate-resilient WASH services, particularly in rural and coastal areas, which are highly vulnerable to climate change impacts like floods and droughts. Existing data systems are fragmented, hindering effective programming and response coordination.

Job Purpose

This role supports UNICEF Sierra Leone's WASH section by strengthening data systems, analysis, and visualization for WASH and climate-related interventions. The Information Management Officer will be crucial in improving data collection, harmonization, and analysis to inform programming decisions and support coordinated responses. The assignment aims to enhance the quality and consistency of data, identify and address data gaps, and develop effective data visualization products. This will contribute to more targeted interventions for vulnerable populations, climate adaptation strategies, and upstream engagement on climate financing and policy, ultimately supporting equitable development and the realization of children's rights in Sierra Leone.

Responsibilities

The Information Management Officer will support UNICEF Sierra Leone's WASH section in strengthening data systems, analysis, and visualization. Key responsibilities include leading data collection and compilation for WASH and Climate monitoring and reporting, developing and maintaining internal WASH Information Management tools, and ensuring data quality and consistency across various WASH portfolios. The role involves identifying field-level data gaps and proposing solutions, maintaining a database of relevant information, and creating regular data visualization products such as maps, dashboards, and infographics for decision-makers. Additionally, the officer will support the standardization and sharing of humanitarian response information through various platforms and maintain catalogues of information management products. The role also includes contributing to UNV's broader objectives by strengthening knowledge of volunteerism and promoting online volunteering services.

Work Experience

Requires at least seven years of relevant experience, including a minimum of two years in information management, programme management, and project support. Experience in data management related to Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH), emergencies, and climate is considered an asset. Proficiency in data collection platforms, advanced MS Excel, SPSS, Strata, Access, and other data management tools is necessary. Skills in mapping and infographics (e.g., Arc GIS, Adobe) are also required.
