Organizational Context
The United Nations Multi-Country Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (MSDCF) in the Caribbean, aligned with the SDGs, guides UN development activities in 22 countries from 2022-2026. It emphasizes 'Build Back Better' post-COVID-19 and addresses regional vulnerabilities. The UNRCO Trinidad and Tobago, as part of this framework, works with national governments and partners to achieve development objectives across four thematic areas. This role specifically supports the CCA for Aruba, a key analytical product aimed at informing policy and stakeholder engagement.
Job Purpose
This assignment focuses on the graphic design and professional layout of the Common Country Analysis (CCA) for Aruba. The goal is to transform a technical document into a visually compelling and accessible publication that effectively communicates key development insights to diverse stakeholders, including policymakers and the public. The visually enhanced CCA will serve as a crucial tool for outreach, advocacy, and policy engagement, directly informing the next iteration of the MSDCF and strengthening the alignment of UN support with national priorities. The expert's contribution is vital for advancing the SDGs by ensuring critical development information is effectively disseminated and acted upon, reinforcing the UN's role as a knowledge partner.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibility is the graphic design and professional layout of the Common Country Analysis (CCA) report for Aruba. This involves developing a clean, coherent design system aligned with UN branding guidelines to enhance readability, narrative flow, and visual hierarchy. The expert will integrate text, data visualizations, and infographics into a consistent layout that clearly communicates complex development insights to various audiences. Emphasis will be placed on clarity, chapter consistency, effective use of white space, and strategic presentation of key messages and data. The role includes preparing the finalized manuscript for both digital (optimized, interactive PDF with navigation and accessibility features) and print (press-ready files) dissemination, ensuring the final product meets the standards of flagship UN publications and supports effective outreach and policy dialogue.
Work Experience
The role requires demonstrated experience in editorial design, publication layout, and the production of high-quality reports. While extensive years of experience are not mandatory, a strong portfolio of work on reports, policy documents, or similar long-form publications is necessary. Experience within development, public sector, or international organization contexts is ideal. Proficiency in industry-standard design software (Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, or equivalents) and familiarity with digital publishing and print production are required.
Skills
Essential skills include a solid understanding of visual hierarchy, typography, color theory, and data visualization. The ability to translate complex analytical content into clear, engaging, and accessible design formats aligned with UN branding standards is crucial. Proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop (or equivalents) is required. Familiarity with interactive PDFs and print production is necessary. Adaptability in using AI-assisted design tools for efficiency and quality, strong attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines, and effective communication for feedback are also important.
