Organizational Context
The Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Facility, part of the UN's Departments of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations, strengthens gender-responsive rule of law support globally. It operates within the Peacebuilding and Peace Support Office, aligning with international gender equality norms and Security Council resolutions. The Facility aims to advance inclusive and gender-responsive justice and security institutions worldwide, contributing to SDG 16 and SDG 5.
Job Purpose
This role supports the Women, Peace and Security Facility by developing a visual identity and multimedia communications products for the "Accelerating the Women, Peace and Security Agenda and Young Women’s Empowerment through UN Assistance to Rule of Law and Security Institutions (Phase II)" project. The volunteer will translate complex project information, including a global dataset and assessment tool, into compelling visual content for diverse audiences. This includes branding, outreach materials, and digital content, crucial for shaping project perception, strengthening advocacy for women's leadership in security institutions, and serving as long-term communication assets for the PBPSO's gender and rule of law initiatives.
Responsibilities
The volunteer will be responsible for the visual communication aspects of the project. Key duties include designing five factsheets with infographics to present complex data and policy content clearly for the UN Portal launch. Additionally, the volunteer will develop website and social media content (approximately 12 posts) based on these factsheets to promote the portal's findings across various channels. All designed products must adhere to relevant UN standards and guidelines, requiring remote coordination with communications focal points to ensure consistency and quality.
Work Experience
The role requires demonstrated experience in graphic design, visual communications, or multimedia design. Proficiency in industry-standard design software such as Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, or Figma is essential. Experience designing materials for international organizations, NGOs, advocacy campaigns, or public-interest initiatives is desirable. Familiarity with gender equality, peacebuilding, rule of law, and human rights work is also an asset.
Skills
Key skills include graphic design, visual communications, and multimedia design. Proficiency in design software (Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Figma) is required. The ability to visualize data, concepts, and policy content clearly and compellingly is crucial. Strong organizational and communication skills, with the capacity for independent work and meeting deadlines, are also necessary. Familiarity with gender equality, peacebuilding, rule of law, and human rights is beneficial.
