Organizational Context
The Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Facility, part of the UN's Peacebuilding and Peace Support Office (PBPSO), strengthens gender-responsive rule of law support globally. It operates within the Departments of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations (DPPA-DPO), aligning with international gender equality norms and Security Council resolutions on Women, Peace and Security. The facility aims to advance gender equality and promote sustainable peace.
Job Purpose
This role supports the launch of the UN Portal on Women in Justice and Security by developing flagship video material. The video will highlight the importance of women's participation in justice and security institutions for sustainable peace, prevention, human rights, and inclusive governance. It aims to inspire stakeholders by showcasing real stories and the impact of gender equality in these sectors. The volunteer will contribute to raising awareness and mobilizing action for the Women, Peace and Security agenda, directly supporting SDG 16 and SDG 5, and creating a lasting communication asset for the PBPSO.
Responsibilities
The volunteer will conceptualize, script, and produce a main video (approx. 5 minutes) for the UN Portal launch, and extract shorter segments for social media. Responsibilities include collaborating with the project team to develop storylines aligned with UN messaging, editing and finalizing the film with subtitles and branding, and ensuring accessibility standards are met. The role also involves coordinating remotely with UN communications focal points to maintain consistency with UN visual identity and tone, ensuring the final product effectively communicates the project's goals and impact.
Work Experience
Proven experience in film production, video editing, and visual storytelling is required. Proficiency in video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve) is essential. Experience producing content for international organizations, NGOs, or advocacy campaigns is desirable. Familiarity with gender equality, peacebuilding, rule of law, or human rights themes is an asset.
Skills
Key skills include film production, video editing, and visual storytelling. The ability to translate complex policy concepts into compelling narratives and visuals is crucial. Strong communication and teamwork skills are necessary, along with the capacity to work independently under tight deadlines. Proficiency in video editing software is a technical requirement. Familiarity with gender equality and peacebuilding themes is beneficial.
