UNICEF in Pakistan supports the government to accelerate progress for children and achieve Sustainable Development Goals, focusing on survival, learning, protection, and a safe environment. Pakistan is one of the last two countries with circulating wild poliovirus, making strategic communication crucial for eradication. UNICEF aids evidence-based, community-centered communication to counter misinformation and build trust for increased vaccine acceptance in high-risk areas.
Job Purpose
This role aims to strengthen UNICEF's digital communication efforts in Pakistan to combat polio. The expert will integrate AI-enabled digital engagement, social listening, and misinformation management into program operations. Key contributions include developing and implementing an AI-assisted digital SBC strategy, enhancing real-time insight generation and rumor response systems, and building the capacity of teams to use data-driven, ethical approaches. The goal is to improve community trust and vaccination uptake, contributing to polio eradication and protecting children.
Responsibilities
The UN Volunteer will support the development and implementation of an AI-enabled digital SBC strategy and content pipeline, including message variants and A/B testing. Responsibilities include co-creating pre-bunking and debunking narratives in local languages, planning and overseeing targeted digital campaigns, and monitoring engagement performance. The role involves strengthening social listening mechanisms with AI analytics for real-time trend identification and misinformation detection. It also includes developing rapid response protocols, coordinating rumor response, and triangulating digital insights with community feedback. Capacity building involves creating toolkits on ethical AI use, facilitating trainings, and producing an AI & Digital SBC Playbook. Coordination with other programs and support for funding visibility are also key tasks.
Work Experience
Requires 3-5 years of professional experience in digital communication, social media strategy, or social and behaviour change (SBC) within public health or development. Experience in designing and implementing data-driven digital campaigns, using social listening for misinformation identification, and working with AI or digital tools is essential. Experience with government, UN, or NGO partners in complex environments, including capacity building, is advantageous.
