Organizational Context
UNFPA, the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency, aims to create a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled. The Spotlight Initiative Africa Regional Program (SIARP) 2.0, jointly implemented by UNFPA, UNDP, UNICEF, and UN Women, focuses on eliminating sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) and harmful practices (HP) in Africa. This program strengthens existing strategies and partnerships to accelerate transformative change, with a strong emphasis on evidence generation and data strengthening related to violence against women and girls (VAWG) and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR).
Job Purpose
The Gender Data Analyst will support the Spotlight Initiative Africa Regional Program (SIARP) 2.0 by contributing to evidence generation and strengthening efforts on VAWG/SGBV/HP and SRHR. Responsibilities include organizing and delivering capacity-strengthening activities for institutions and CSOs on data collection, analysis, reporting, and utilization. The role involves facilitating the development of knowledge products and evidence-based briefing papers to enhance communication on GBV and SRHR issues. The analyst will support the review of gender data for various population groups, engaging stakeholders like NSOs and UN agencies. Key tasks include supporting evidence building on GBV/SRHR linkages, developing methodologies for secondary data analysis, and contributing to data and evidence building on school-related GBV and menstrual health. The position also entails supporting comprehensive analysis, research findings, and the exchange of best practices, as well as contributing to the development and upkeep of accessible databases like the GBVIMS. Advocacy support through data interpretation and undertaking other relevant tasks for SIARP 2.0 and UNFPA are also included.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of professional experience in social and demographic data collection, analysis, and utilization, particularly on gender-related issues, is required, preferably in a developing country. At least five years of this experience must focus on data related to VAWG, SGBV, HP, and SRHR, with a strong understanding of data collection, analytics, dashboard development, and utilization protocols. Experience in capacity strengthening, developing learning materials, creating analytical and advocacy reports, and analyzing diverse data sources (e.g., surveys, census, vital statistics, HMIS) is essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, statistical software, and visualization tools is also necessary.
Skills
Key competencies include accountability, adaptability, building trust, client orientation, commitment to continuous learning, communication, creativity, empowering others, ethics, integrity, judgment, knowledge sharing, leadership, planning, professionalism, respect for diversity, self-management, technological awareness, vision, and teamwork.
