Job Purpose
This role supports UNDP's youth empowerment initiatives, including the Generation17 flagship project, by contributing to communication and advocacy efforts. The assignment focuses on advancing youth empowerment as a key governance and development priority, working across global, regional, and country levels. The position will strengthen meaningful, inclusive, and safe youth participation in public decision-making, particularly for young women and marginalized groups. The role involves creating engaging content, supporting social media campaigns, and contributing to advocacy activities that highlight youth leadership, innovation, and participation in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
Responsibilities
The Communication and Advocacy Assistant will support content creation, graphic design, and digital communications by developing visually engaging content for UNDP Youth platforms, including social media and web pages. This involves designing templates and communication products like blogs and human interest stories using Canva, and gathering multimedia materials for digital storytelling. The role includes planning, designing, and engaging on social media, creating assets for campaigns and global observance days, and monitoring activity. Responsibilities also encompass supporting communication and advocacy campaigns related to youth initiatives, contributing to global observance days, and assisting with the engagement of Generation 17 young leaders. Additionally, the assistant will support knowledge management by preparing communication materials for knowledge products and maintaining digital filing systems, provide multimedia production support, coordinate with communications experts, and offer logistical and communication support for events and webinars.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of relevant experience is required in communication, social media support, digital content creation, youth engagement, or advocacy. Experience in designing visual content with tools like Canva, strong organizational and coordination skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office are essential. Familiarity with youth networks and a demonstrated interest in youth empowerment or the Sustainable Development Goals are advantageous.
