Job Purpose
This role supports IOM's Housing Programme, which focuses on providing durable housing solutions for IDPs and vulnerable groups through rehabilitation, repair, and new construction projects. The UN Volunteer will assist in monitoring housing and infrastructure projects, including repairs and rehabilitations of damaged buildings, in close coordination with colleagues, partners, and municipalities. The position also involves supporting construction activities for other IOM programmes, overseeing contractors and laborers, and ensuring projects align with government priorities and recovery plans. The ultimate goal is to contribute to the expansion of safe, affordable, and energy-efficient housing in Ukraine.
Responsibilities
The Site Supervisor Assistant will continuously monitor construction activities and contractors on-site, tracking progress against work plans and budgets, and reporting any delays. Responsibilities include assisting in quality control, documenting progress, and reporting necessary changes or corrections. The role involves conducting technical assessments of damaged buildings and engineering networks, compiling observations to inform repair options, and ensuring strict compliance with Health and Safety (H&S) measures. Additionally, the assistant will help draft Bills of Quantities and Materials, coordinate with the Supply Chain Unit on procurement, and support the integration of Housing, Land, and Property (HLP) issues. The role requires updating programme trackers, reviewing as-built documentation, compiling reports, and adhering to PSEA policies. Participation in coordination meetings and ensuring proper document filing are also key duties.
Work Experience
Requires 7 years of relevant experience in supporting construction or rehabilitation projects, including site monitoring, documentation, contractor coordination, and reporting. Experience working as a site engineer or construction site manager is essential. Familiarity with construction Health & Safety practices, Microsoft Office Suite, and planning software like MS Project is necessary. Knowledge of Ukrainian building codes and proficiency in design software (e.g., AutoCAD) are also required. Experience liaising with governmental authorities and working with vulnerable groups is beneficial.
