Organizational Context
UNICEF Peru is dedicated to ensuring all children and adolescents have the opportunity to exercise their rights, focusing on health, education, child protection, and emergency response. Recognizing regional disparities, especially in rural and peri-urban areas, UNICEF prioritizes work in the Amazonian regions of Ucayali and Loreto, the Andean region of Huancavelica, and Lima. Sustainable funding is crucial for program continuity and expansion, with individual donor acquisition through Face-to-Face (F2F) campaigns being a key strategy.
Job Purpose
This role supports UNICEF Peru's mission by acquiring recurring individual donations through Face-to-Face (F2F) fundraising. The objective is to engage the public, raise awareness about the urgent needs of children in Peru, and persuade individuals to become regular donors. This initiative aims to secure sustainable financial resources for UNICEF's programs, contributing to the organization's operational self-sufficiency and long-term impact. The volunteer will be part of a pilot project, "Social Champion," fostering a committed team to expand the donor base and enhance financial sustainability, ultimately supporting the well-being and protection of vulnerable children across the country.
Responsibilities
The Face-to-Face Fundraiser (Social Champion Volunteer) is responsible for generating income by acquiring recurring donations from potential donors in designated public and private spaces, events, or other locations. Key duties include proactively identifying and approaching potential donors, clearly explaining UNICEF's mission and the impact of donations, and professionally addressing questions and objections with empathy and conviction. The role involves building trust with donors to secure long-term commitments and accurately recording donations using assigned tools. Volunteers must meet established fundraising targets for new donors and donation amounts, reporting progress regularly to their supervisor. Participation in ongoing training for communication, persuasion, and sales skills, and staying updated on UNICEF's work and best practices are also required.
Work Experience
No prior experience is required. However, one year of experience in commercial areas or sales, direct sales, field sales, catalog sales, or insurance is preferred. Experience in donor acquisition, face-to-face fundraising, or general fundraising is also desirable. Experience working towards measurable objectives and results is beneficial.
Skills
Key competencies include adaptability, flexibility, planning, organization, integrity, honesty, commitment, professionalism, teamwork, and empathy. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for engaging the public clearly and persuasively. Active listening, negotiation, objection handling, and a positive, proactive attitude are important. Resilience, persistence, and high self-motivation are needed to achieve fundraising goals. A commitment to human rights and child welfare, along with an understanding of UNICEF's mission, is also valued.
