Organizational Context
Goodness and Mercy Missions is dedicated to empowering disadvantaged individuals, including men, women, and youth, to improve their quality of life. Since 2007, their programs have focused on women's economic empowerment, child sponsorship, education, computer training, and youth livelihood projects. This specific initiative addresses the unique socio-economic challenges faced by young single mothers in Cameroon's Boyo Division, aiming to break cycles of poverty and exploitation through sustainable empowerment solutions.
Job Purpose
This assignment aims to recruit skilled volunteers to collaborate with Goodness and Mercy Missions and community stakeholders in Cameroon. The volunteers will design a comprehensive, culturally relevant, and sustainable empowerment program tailored for young single mothers in the Boyo Division. The program's objective is to equip these mothers with essential tools, skills, and resources to achieve long-term self-reliance and gain decisive control over their lives. The project seeks to foster financial independence, personal agency, and resilience, thereby breaking cycles of poverty and improving the well-being of both mothers and their children.
Responsibilities
Volunteers will contribute to key phases of program development. This includes conducting a needs assessment to identify challenges faced by young single mothers (e.g., education, vocational skills, healthcare, finance, social stigma) and proposing evidence-based solutions. They will collaborate on designing the program's core architecture, defining modules (e.g., financial literacy, entrepreneurship, psychosocial support), delivery methods (workshops, mentorship), and success metrics. Additionally, volunteers will develop project proposals and grant applications to secure funding, and research potential funding sources such as international agencies, NGOs, foundations, and CSR partners, assisting in creating a database of opportunities.
Work Experience
Required experience includes backgrounds in social work, community development, gender studies, program design, monitoring & evaluation, or business development. Strong research, analytical, and writing skills are essential. Cultural sensitivity and a passion for sustainable, community-led development are also required. Experience in grant writing or non-profit program design is considered a plus.
