Organizational Context
The UN Regional Centre for Peace, Disarmament and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean (UNLIREC) supports 33 states in promoting peace and security through disarmament and non-proliferation efforts. As part of the UN Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA), UNLIREC is adapting the global Youth Leaders Fund (YLF) for a regional edition in Latin America and the Caribbean. This initiative aims to empower young leaders aged 18-29 to contribute to nuclear disarmament.
Job Purpose
The UN Volunteer will support the implementation of the Youth Leaders Fund for a World Without Nuclear Weapons (YLF) in Latin America and the Caribbean, specifically focusing on the organization of the Peace and Disarmament Festival in Mexico City. This role involves assisting the Gender and Youth Programme team in executing the YLF-LAC project across its three phases: online training, storytelling and co-creation workshops, and the final festival. The volunteer will contribute to capacity building for young leaders and promote their active participation in building a safer world, leveraging the region's historical commitment to disarmament.
Responsibilities
The UN Volunteer will support the UNLIREC team in implementing the YLF-LAC project, focusing on the organization of the Peace and Disarmament Festival. Key responsibilities include:
Program Planning and Implementation (60%): Assisting in the planning and execution of the YLF-LAC project phases, including online training and virtual workshops. Supporting the coordination with experts, facilitators, and participants, and aiding in the development of participant proposals. Providing technical and logistical support for the co-creation and implementation of the Festival, including vendor coordination and operational aspects.
Partnerships and Coordination (15%): Identifying collaboration opportunities with youth organizations, educational institutions, cultural actors, and government counterparts. Supporting coordination with strategic partners, including UN entities and local actors, and facilitating communication with partners and participants.
Communication and Outreach (15%): Supporting program communication activities to ensure visibility of youth contributions. Drafting communication materials, including social media content. Assisting participants in developing and disseminating narrative products on nuclear disarmament and peacebuilding. Contributing to the program and Festival communication strategy.
Other Functions (10%): Performing other related tasks as required.
Work Experience
Requires at least 3 years of experience in social/communication projects, youth/civil society engagement, peacebuilding, disarmament, arms control, non-proliferation, or international peace and security. Experience in organizing cultural, academic, or diplomatic events with multiple stakeholders is needed. Experience working with youth, including mentoring, and in creating communication content (especially social media) is highly valued. Knowledge of the 2030 Agenda, peace, disarmament, and relevant international agreements is a plus. Must reside in Mexico.
