Job Purpose
This role supports the UNHCR Regional Bureau for West and Central Africa (RBWCA) in Dakar by translating a comprehensive guide on Localization from English to French. The translated document will serve as a crucial operational tool to enhance the capacities of teams and partners within French-speaking countries in the region. The purpose is to ensure accurate, concise, and contextually appropriate communication, facilitating the adoption of localization strategies. By making this public guide accessible in French, the assignment contributes to strengthening operational effectiveness and promoting a shared understanding of localization principles among UNHCR colleagues and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibility is to translate a 33-page guide on Localization, including 9 pages of annexes and graphics, from English to French. This involves ensuring the translation is accurate, concise, and adheres to UNHCR's communication guidelines and target audience needs. The translated content must be adapted for colleagues in French-speaking West and Central African countries, as well as partners and other interested professionals. A key duty is to maintain the original format and layout of the document (unhcr-guidelines-localization-2025.pdf) throughout the translation process. Selected volunteers will receive the source document, guidance on the target audience, communication directives, and support on preserving the document's format.
Work Experience
Candidates must be native French speakers with fluent English proficiency. Familiarity with technical terms related to Localization is considered a strong advantage. Prior translation experience is also considered an asset. A translation paragraph will be requested as part of the selection process.
