Job Purpose
This role supports UN Women's Women's Economic Empowerment (WEE) pillar in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, aligning with the country office's Strategic Note (2025-2029). The Program Assistant will contribute to key dimensions of the WEE portfolio, including engaging the private sector on the Women's Empowerment Principles (WEPs), supporting women's increased participation in technology and innovation, and fostering entrepreneurship, agriculture, and agribusiness, with a focus on rural women, displaced persons, and conflict-affected women. The position aims to advance gender equality and women's full participation as development partners and beneficiaries.
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Women's Economic Empowerment Programme Officer, the National UN Volunteer will provide substantial support in conceptualizing, preparing terms of reference, planning, and supervising activities. This includes preparing and validating technical notes for the Congolese government, UN agencies, and other UN Women partners for the economic empowerment program implementation. The role involves supporting the management and monitoring of projects and activities, ensuring efficient resource management in compliance with UN Women procedures, and reporting daily to the supervisor. The assistant will also support the planning and organization of events like training and campaigns, and ensure the logistical preparation for thematic subgroup meetings. Contributions to mission preparation for the team and partners, managing contact lists, and maintaining program-related document filing are also key duties. Additional related tasks as needed will be performed.
Work Experience
No prior experience is required. However, a minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience is desirable, particularly in technical areas related to women's economic empowerment. Experience working within the United Nations system is considered an asset. Proficiency in computer skills, including Internet, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and Windows, is also beneficial.
