Organizational Context
The United Nations Interim Force for Abyei (UNISFA) was established in July 2011 by the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations. Its mandate includes strengthening the Abyei Police Service, monitoring troop redeployment, providing de-mining assistance, facilitating humanitarian aid, and ensuring security for oil infrastructure. UNISFA is also authorized to protect UN personnel, facilities, civilians, and the area from unauthorized incursions. The Strategic Communication and Public Information Office supports these efforts.
Job Purpose
This role supports UNISFA's social media channels (X, Instagram, Facebook) by creating engaging text and visual content, including graphics and infographics, in line with UN branding guidelines. The volunteer will assist in planning, implementing, and monitoring the social media strategy to enhance brand awareness, engage the target audience, and drive traffic. The objective is to ensure a consistent and effective online presence for UNISFA by working closely with the Public Information team. This online volunteering assignment is task-based and non-contractual, with no allowances or entitlements.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement a comprehensive social media strategy aligned with UNISFA's mandate and activities, staying updated on industry trends. Create engaging content (text, images, videos, infographics) and manage a content calendar for consistent posting across platforms. Monitor and moderate user-generated content, engaging with the online community to foster relationships and increase engagement metrics. Utilize social media analytics tools to track performance, gather audience insights, and generate reports to measure campaign effectiveness and recommend improvements. Stay informed about social media algorithm changes, policies, and best practices, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
Work Experience
Previous experience in social media, communications, campaigning, or strategy development is required. Experience with designing outreach/marketing tools and good knowledge of online marketing tools and channels are highly desired.
Skills
Excellent communication and writing/editing skills are essential. Proficiency in creating engaging social media content, including graphics and infographics, is needed. Familiarity with online marketing tools and channels is beneficial. Fluency in English is desirable.
