Organizational Context
The United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) was established in July 2011 to strengthen the capacity of the Abyei Police Service, monitor troop redeployment, provide de-mining assistance, and facilitate humanitarian aid. Operating under Chapter VII of the UN Charter, UNISFA is also mandated to protect UN personnel, facilities, civilians, and ensure security in the Abyei Administrative Area. The mission is currently focused on implementing its mandate and engaging the public during a critical period.
Job Purpose
This role supports UNISFA's expanding digital communications and multimedia storytelling efforts, particularly during a period of mandate implementation and heightened public engagement. The Online Volunteer will produce compelling multimedia content highlighting peacekeeping operations, community engagement, humanitarian support, infrastructure projects, and other initiatives across Abyei. The assignment aims to strengthen public awareness of UNISFA's mandate, increase visibility of its impact, promote peace messaging, and enhance audience engagement across digital platforms. The volunteer will collaborate closely with the Strategic Communications and Public Information team to create high-quality visual content optimized for social media, web, and internal communications.
Responsibilities
The primary objectives are to strengthen UNISFA's social media presence with high-quality video content and enhance audience engagement through creative, platform-specific video assets. Key tasks include editing short-form (15-60 seconds) and longer-form (1-5 minutes) videos for various social media platforms and YouTube, cutting and assembling footage, adding subtitles and on-screen text, applying color correction and sound design, and creating simple motion graphics. The role also involves optimizing videos for platform-specific requirements (formats, duration), ensuring content aligns with brand guidelines and accessibility standards, creating thumbnails, and producing teaser clips. Additionally, the volunteer will prepare and organize multimedia files for upload to UNISFA Media, ensuring compliance with standards and adding complete metadata. Collaboration with the Communications team, participation in content planning meetings, adherence to workflows, and timely delivery of revisions are essential.
Work Experience
Requires proven experience in video editing and multimedia production. Proficiency in editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or CapCut Desktop is essential. Experience with motion graphics and Adobe After Effects is desirable. Familiarity with social media content optimization and digital storytelling trends is expected. Basic photography and graphic design skills are considered an advantage.
Skills
Key skills include strong storytelling and visual communication abilities, proficiency in video editing software, and familiarity with social media content optimization. The role requires attention to detail, adherence to UN branding and editorial standards, and strong organizational and time-management skills. The ability to work independently and under pressure in a multicultural environment, handle sensitive content professionally and ethically, and communicate fluently in English are also important competencies.
