Economic and Statistical Support for RBEC Countries
Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), established in 1965, is the UN's global development network operating in nearly 170 countries. Its mission is to eradicate poverty, reduce inequalities, and build resilience. The Istanbul Regional Hub (IRH) serves as the primary knowledge and advisory center for the Europe and Central Asia region, focusing on advancing inclusive green growth and supporting the SDGs.
Job Purpose
This role supports the UNDP RBEC Regional Economic Analysis Team by conducting economic and statistical analyses to inform policy recommendations for inclusive green growth in the Europe and Central Asia region. The volunteer will contribute to generating insights related to SDGs, regional cooperation, reconstruction, recovery, and resilience. The assignment involves research, data analysis, and contributing to analytical products, aiming to synthesize findings into actionable insights for internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include collecting and cleaning data from various international databases, performing statistical and econometric analyses (time-series, comparative statistics, index development, basic modeling), and conducting literature reviews on inclusive green growth trends in the RBEC region. The volunteer will also contribute to analytical products such as policy briefs and background research for UNDP reports, create visualizations (charts, dashboards), and assist in communicating findings. Ad hoc contributions to internal discussions, knowledge-sharing, and collaborative research initiatives are also expected.
Work Experience
Experience in handling large datasets, economic modeling, and data visualization techniques is desirable. Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required. Knowledge of Russian, Turkish, or other languages from the RBEC region is considered an advantage.
Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel). Experience with statistical and econometric software (STATA, R, Python, Matlab, E-Views) is an asset. Skills in data analysis, economic modeling, and data visualization are beneficial. Strong written and spoken English communication skills are essential. Familiarity with the RBEC region's languages is advantageous.
