Organizational Context
The Community Centre for Integrated Development (CCID) in Cameroon is dedicated to advancing the rights of communities, women, girls, and young people. CCID focuses on strengthening community leaders and organizations to address the needs of indigenous populations. The organization champions the empowerment of women and girls, promotes health, education, and human rights, and envisions resilient African communities where individuals can exercise their rights and drive community-led development.
Job Purpose
This role aims to enhance CCID's digital advocacy and youth engagement by leveraging TikTok and other short-form video platforms. The objective is to foster public conversations on critical issues such as sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), gender-based violence (GBV), consent, and mental health. The assignment supports the development and execution of a 12-month video advocacy strategy, utilizing popular culture and engaging formats to make sensitive topics accessible. The volunteer will contribute to creating ethical, rights-based content that educates, sparks dialogue, challenges harmful norms, and builds an informed online community committed to gender justice.
Responsibilities
The volunteer will strengthen CCID's digital advocacy on platforms like TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts, using popular culture and youth-friendly messaging to engage diverse audiences on issues affecting women, girls, and marginalized communities. Responsibilities include developing and implementing a 12-month short-form video advocacy calendar, creating educational and transformative content through voiceovers, captions, and original skits, rather than simply reposting. The role involves designing and managing a dynamic TikTok content strategy to raise awareness on gender equality and human rights, build CCID's digital audience, drive online conversations for social change, and leverage popular culture to stimulate public debate, positioning CCID as a key voice in digital advocacy.
Work Experience
Experience is required in digital communications, social media management, TikTok content creation, youth advocacy, journalism, communications, graphic design, or campaign strategy. A strong understanding of short-form video platforms and basic video editing skills using tools like Canva or CapCut are essential. Familiarity with Cameroonian or African youth culture is an advantage.
Skills
Key skills include writing catchy captions, hooks, and scripts; basic video editing; communicating sensitive issues respectfully; and a strong interest in social justice topics. Fluency in English is required, with Pidgin English and/or French being advantageous. The ability to transform content through education, commentary, reflection, and advocacy is crucial.
