Job Purpose
The ACT Advocacy Academy seeks a Spanish Language Assistant to enhance its capacity-strengthening program. This role is crucial for ensuring the inclusivity and accessibility of advocacy learning materials for Spanish-speaking participants. The assistant will review and revise Spanish translations of training materials, ensuring they are culturally appropriate and easy to understand. Additionally, they will provide direct support to participants during workshops, helping them engage with the content. This position contributes to ACT Alliance's objective of promoting a just, inclusive, and sustainable world by enhancing advocacy knowledge and skills among its members.
Responsibilities
The Spanish Language Assistant will review and revise Spanish translations of PowerPoint presentations and handouts for the ACT Advocacy Academy's online learning environment, ensuring language is inclusive and accessible. This involves approximately two hours of work per week. The assistant will also provide support to Spanish-speaking participants, helping them understand and engage with workshop content as needed, estimated at four hours per week. A key responsibility is collaborating with the ACT Advocacy Academy team to foster an inclusive learning environment. Furthermore, the role includes assisting with the translation of existing English materials into Spanish. The assignment requires 2-3 hours per week for 12 weeks, with the option to attend live sessions for learning.
Work Experience
Experience in translating materials, whether formal or informal, is desirable. Knowledge of social justice advocacy is also beneficial. A background in global advocacy processes is considered an advantage. The primary requirement is fluency in Spanish and intermediate written English.
Skills
Required skills include fluency in Spanish (spoken and written) and intermediate written English. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for effective collaboration and participant support. Knowledge of social justice advocacy and global advocacy processes is desirable. The ability to ensure language is inclusive and accessible is also a key competency for this role.
