Organizational Context
The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is the UN's sexual and reproductive health agency, committed to a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled. In Sri Lanka, UNFPA advocates for rights-based policies to ensure sexual and reproductive health and rights for all. The current context involves shrinking traditional donor funding and a volatile global financing landscape, necessitating a focus on strengthening sustainable financing for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) and Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE).

The online volunteer will identify and map new donor opportunities, International Financial Institution (IFI) pipelines, and innovative financing approaches to sustain progress towards UNFPA's Three Transformative Results: ending unmet need for family planning, ending preventable maternal deaths, and ending gender-based violence. The role contributes to transitioning from short-term funding to long-term sustainable financing, including blended finance and private sector engagement. The volunteer will conduct research, gather donor intelligence, and perform strategic analysis to position SRHR and GEWE as investment priorities, synthesizing complex information into clear narratives for diverse stakeholders.
Responsibilities
The online volunteer will support UNFPA Sri Lanka's donor intelligence, resource mobilization, and development efforts for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE) and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). Key responsibilities include conducting comprehensive donor and IFI landscape mapping to identify at least 20 potential funding and partnership opportunities aligned with UNFPA's priorities. The volunteer will research and synthesize donor priorities, thematic trends, and strategic entry points, organizing findings into user-friendly documents. Additionally, the role involves supporting the refinement and customization of 5-8 existing concept notes to align with identified donor priorities, and assisting in the development of external resource mobilization materials, such as a narrative paper or PowerPoint deck. Regular online check-ins for progress discussion and feedback are expected.
Work Experience
Experience in research, donor mapping, partnerships, resource mobilization, proposal development, or communications is desirable. Familiarity with international development actors, donor landscapes, multilateral organizations, foundations, private sector partnerships, or financing for development, particularly in the Sri Lankan context, is an asset. Demonstrated ability to conduct desk research, synthesize information, and present findings clearly is essential. Experience supporting reports, concept notes, presentations, or briefing papers is also desirable.
Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) is required. Demonstrated ability to conduct desk research, synthesize complex information, and present findings clearly is essential. Interest or experience in Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE), Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), or SDG-related programming is an advantage. Fluency in English is required.
