Social Media Outreach Campaign - International Day Against Drug Abuse
Organizational Context
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is a global leader in combating illicit drugs, organized crime, terrorism, and corruption. UNODC Afghanistan works to address the drug and crime situation through evidence-based advocacy, providing information on opium cultivation and drug use, and implementing alternative livelihoods and harm reduction programs. The operating environment is marked by instability and expanding criminal networks involved in drug production, trafficking, and online fraud.
Job Purpose
This assignment supports UNODC Afghanistan's digital campaign for International Day Against Drug Abuse. The purpose is to amplify key messages and promote public engagement through social media outreach. Online Volunteers will contribute by sharing campaign posts, tracking engagement metrics, and potentially facilitating communication among volunteer teams. The campaign aims to raise awareness and encourage investment in prevention, justice, education, healthcare, and alternative livelihoods, contributing to building resilient societies and combating the drug trade's impact.
Responsibilities
Online Volunteers will support UNODC Afghanistan's digital campaign for International Day Against Drug Abuse. Key responsibilities include sharing 2-3 campaign posts weekly via personal or community social media networks, following a provided social media calendar. Volunteers will also assist in light tracking of campaign engagement by updating a shared Google Sheet with relevant metrics. Five Coordination Online Volunteers will support small teams by facilitating communication and coordination. All volunteers will receive a digital toolkit and attend a mandatory orientation call. The campaign runs for the duration of June 2026.
Work Experience
Candidates should be familiar with social media platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook, and comfortable supporting digital outreach activities. While not strictly required, having active public social media accounts with established followings is particularly encouraged. Professional-level written and verbal English is necessary.
Skills
Proficiency in using social media platforms (TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook) is essential. The ability to support digital outreach activities is required. Professional-level written and verbal English communication skills are necessary. Working knowledge of Dari and Pashto is desirable. Familiarity with digital tools like Google Forms is a plus. An interest or prior experience in health, communications, digital outreach, or social media engagement is advantageous.
