Job Purpose
The World Food Programme (WFP) in Guatemala is dedicated to combating hunger and improving nutrition, particularly in regions facing high rates of chronic malnutrition and anemia. This role supports WFP's commitment to achieving Zero Hunger by 2030 by working to break the cycle of hunger and poverty. The assignment focuses on community-level interventions to enhance food security and nutritional status, especially in areas affected by climate change-related emergencies. The Community Facilitation and Counseling Officer will play a crucial part in delivering essential health and nutrition education, identifying malnutrition cases, and supporting immediate treatment and recovery efforts, thereby contributing to the overall well-being and resilience of vulnerable communities.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) Programme Associate, the Community Facilitation and Counseling Officer will be responsible for facilitating community activities, including educational fairs and workshops. This includes registering participants, organizing event logistics, and ensuring a respectful and inclusive environment. The role involves clearly explaining key messages on healthy eating, hygiene practices, and family co-responsibility in nutrition and health. The officer will address basic family queries, escalating complex issues to technical staff, and participating in team feedback sessions. A key responsibility is to prepare reports detailing activities conducted, participant numbers, and outcomes, contributing to the monitoring and evaluation of WFP's community outreach programs.
Work Experience
No prior experience is required, but 1 month of relevant experience is preferred. Mandatory experience includes working in community or rural settings. Desirable experience involves nutrition training, ideally as a community nutrition counselor within WFP or similar organizations. The role requires the ability to facilitate participatory sessions, strong oral and written communication skills, cultural sensitivity, and the capacity to work inclusively with diverse communities. Proactivity, dynamism, and creativity are also valued.
