Job Purpose
The World Food Programme (WFP) is seeking a Community Facilitation and Counseling Officer to support its mission in Guatemala, which focuses on achieving Zero Hunger and improving nutrition. This role is crucial in addressing the high rates of chronic malnutrition and anemia, particularly in vulnerable communities affected by climate change. The officer will contribute to WFP's efforts to build resilient households and communities by facilitating community-level activities. This involves engaging directly with participants, disseminating key messages on healthy eating, hygiene, and family responsibility in nutrition and health, and ensuring a safe and inclusive environment. The position plays a vital role in WFP's strategy to combat hunger and poverty and improve the nutritional status of populations, especially children and women.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) Programme Associate, the Community Facilitation and Counseling Officer will:
Participate in training on activity objectives, including community fairs, key messages (healthy eating, hygiene, family co-responsibility), and playful methodologies.
Register participants according to WFP guidelines.
Assist in setting up, organizing, and managing participant flow during activities.
Ensure a respectful, inclusive, and safe environment during all activities.
Facilitate community fair stations or challenges, clearly and simply explaining activities.
Convey key messages on healthy eating habits, adequate hygiene practices (handwashing with soap, washing fruits and vegetables), and family co-responsibility in nutrition and health.
Address basic family queries or refer them to technical staff when necessary.
Participate in feedback sessions with the organizing team.
Prepare a report detailing activities conducted, number of participants, and outcomes.
Work Experience
No prior experience is required, but one month of relevant experience is desirable. Mandatory experience includes working in community or rural settings. Desirable experience includes nutrition training, preferably as a community nutrition counselor within WFP or similar organizations. Basic reading and writing skills are necessary. Candidates must reside in the municipality of Tamahú, Alta Verapaz.
Skills
Key competencies include adaptability, flexibility, effective communication, planning, organization, inclusion, respect, self-management, group management, and conflict resolution. Technical skills include facilitation of participatory sessions, oral and written communication, and basic literacy. Cultural and social sensitivity, proactivity, dynamism, and creativity are also important.
